Milky Way over Green River, Browns Park, Colorado

Milky Way over Green River, Browns Park, Colorado; 20 June 2020

Capture Notes

This image was captured during a camping trip to Browns Park in the far northwest corner of Colorado in June 2020. Comanche National Grasslands in SE Colorado and Kiowa National Grasslands in NE New Mexico were proving to be unbearably hot in the summer months, so we ventured north to find camping sites that offered dark skies with cooler temperatures. We found an ideal location for those two criterion. What we didn’t think about when we set up next to the beautiful Green River in the early summer months were the bugs. We rapidly learned that the mosquitos love this location as much as we did! Poor Zeus was eaten alive, coming home with many large welts on his belly and other exposed skin areas!

This image was captured with the Canon EOS 5DSR on the star tracker, which allows much longer exposures without star trailing. You can see the reflection of the star trails that would have been created during this three-minute exposure without the star tracker in the starlight reflected in the river.
