The processing of the deep space objects from the Chile trip and then the processing of the total solar eclipse images from the Texas trip got ahead of my processing the Milky Way images I took while in San Pedro de Atacama. While the Southern Cross was imaging the IC2944 Running Chicken, Danita and I both imaged the Milky Way, that was stretched low across the southern sky.
Imaging the Southern Sky’s Milky Way
While we haven’t seen the Milky Way here in the Northern Hemisphere since last November and won’t until May, in the Southern Hemisphere it was in all its glory while there in March. Danita and I both imaged the Milky Way, both attempting tiles to make a panorama, while the telescope was cranking away on the Running Chicken Nebula. The panorama didn’t turn out so well – Photoshop didn’t seem to know how to stitch it together only using two of three tiles. When I attempted to add the third tile in on my own, I made a mess of it! So, enjoy the single image of the Southern Sky’s Milky Way with the Galactic Center in all its glory!
